Product Review on ORS Olive Girls Hair Pudding

Okay so forewarning Mama hasn't had her 'brows done in a minute so yeah I have my bushy brows thing going on.(lol) I had to cut it short because AJ made an appearance in the video (well at least via audio), but I finally got a chance to use my ipod camera (yay me) and wanted to at least show the results of a twist out using Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Girls Hair Pudding. First things first I wish I got a picture of the texture, but if you know what Miss Jessie's curly pudding it's the same visually. Once you put your finger in this gel (all you need is a fingertip's worth), and it feels really slippery but in a good way. I started off with just regular sized twists (micros oh heck no!), put some oil on my fingers unraveled and fluffed. That's it, now that I like the results looks like I'll be twisting my hair again tonight so I can wear a nice twist out at service on Sunday (yeah already planning weekend hair). What would I rate it 5 out of 5, and when I mentioned that I had some flakiness it wasn't because of the gel.

Blown!!!

How the heck does one lose a shampoo bottle after one use? lol I really wanted to do a review on Suave Professionals Rosemary Mint shampoo especially with my scalp turning into patches (I have seborrheic dermatitis, which flares up during the colder months), and I wanted to see if I actually felt that tingle that I've been craving. So, I'll just go by what I remember from that first time using it. First thing that came to mind when I flipped the cap "whoa there buddy that's strong" then I had the evil Mr. Grinch smile. lol I'm one who loooooooooves tingly shampoos, and just by that smell I was sure I had a winner. So, I rinse my hair and proceeded to add a little bit in my hand (like a dollop). I knew it...Suave did not let me down! I felt the tingle, but not a tingle that will make you squirm and run your head under the faucet like you're trying to rinse a relaxer out. But the tingle you get when you're using a hair oil (or dare I say it) hair grease that happens to have tea tree oil. Oh yeah Mommy liked! It rinsed cleanly, left a little bit of a tingle while I was adding my conditioner (no it wasn't the Rosemary Mint conditioner).
Just based off of that one time, I will highly recommend this product. It made my scalp feel less tight, and after rinsing my hair was clean but not squeaky. The smell is something that if you don't mind walking around smelling like a spearmint leaf, then it's something you can handle. Remember this is just based off of one use 4 out 5 is the rating. It might change when I actually find the bottle, but hey the "experience" wasn't a waste (exception of losing the bottle DOH!).

I love me some Sunflower oil

Okay so I've been looking for a base oil to use in my conditioners, and in my moisturizing spray (I heart it!). I said I was going to do EVOO for the winter time, but wanted to find an oil that had similar results with a lighter feel. My hair is not a big fan of EV Coconut oil unless it's mixed with something, and I wasn't trying to melt my shea butter to add to my spritz (I did it before just didn't use enough). So, one day when I was over my parents' house I decided to that since I bought the oil to use for my jerk chicken, that maybe I could use it in a shampoo. I thought this prior to me researching, you know thinking that maybe there was some benefit (MUFAs or EFAs). Since it was plant based I didn't think that it would hurt as much, and just poured it in a bottle of Frizz-Free shampoo I didn't like.
I can honestly say that I have found a keeper. It's not as expensive as EVOO and EVCO, but provides just the right amount of moisture. Sunflower oil also has a great amount of Vitamin E, which is wonderful for us curly/natural folks.
Homemade hair conditioner:
Sunflower & Wheatgerm Oil
Mix 1 cup of sunflower oil and 1 cup of wheat germ oil. Warm the mixture and massage it on the head and hair. Wash off with lukewarm water in which one tablespoon of lemon juice has been added.

One thing I did read that it does not penetrate the hair like coconut oil, but I did notice that my hair did love this.
Ojon’s oil treatment consists of palm oil, fragrance, and a few extracts. It’s particularly interesting because recent research has shown that only SOME oils will actually penetrate the hair. Mineral oil and sunflower oil, for example, will not penetrate. But coconut oil (which is essentially the same as palm oil) will filter deep into the cortex because it is so similar to hair’s natural lipids.

Try it for yourself, you might just like it!

Okay...

I was debating if I wanted to comment on the memorial from yesterday, but shoot why not? Am I the only one who officially cried a river when "Soon and Very Soon (We Are Going to See the King)" was sung and the casket came out? I swear my daughter didn't know what to do with me. So, she just decided to terrorize our living room. The eventually snapped me out of my funk, but then when John Mayer came on playing "Human Nature" dangit if that didn't cause me to break down again. When I heard of his death "Human Nature" was the only song that actually made me literally boo-hoo. How are you guys coping?
I'll leave you with John's performance...*passes kleenex*

I want this one...so bad

I know there people who are raving about certain products, and honestly I will say that I have followed the advice/recommendations of other naturals out in cyber (hey ladies, thanks!). Shoot my new love is Suave Moist, and good thing Giant had it on sale for 2/$5 bonus size (score, only bought one though). I have read probably like one or two (maybe even three reviews) on Island Natural Conditioner by Aubrey Organics.

Coconut fatty acid cream base, organic aloe vera, wheat germ oil, almond protein; extracts of fennel, hops, balm mint, mistletoe, camomile and yarrow; organic coconut milk, jojoba butter, organic shea butter, horsetail extract, coltsfoot extract, Aubrey's preservative(citrus seed extract, vitamin A, C and E), vegetable glycerin, organic rosemary oil, pimenta leaf oil, allspice powder, organic sage oil, carrot oil.

Right now it's on sale (not sure if it's just online) at the Vitamin Shoppe, and since I do want to go there this weekend to go supplement shopping (feeling a little out wack these past few weeks) I was thinking of purchasing this. Has anyone out there ever tried it? If so please feel free to leave a review in the comments

Twisting concoction pt. 2

Okay so it did work, and left my hair soft and moisturized. As I said before I don't have my camera, but I'll let you know I have try it on wet hair with rods on my ends. Lordy, my roots are puffy, and my ends are straight...these are the only two parts that didn't get any form of definition. I'll try it again, but this works for just sitting around the house.

Poor AJ

She's been cursed with Mommy and Daddy's dry hair. It's like no matter what I use her hair slurps it right on up. I have even gone as far as doing a conditioning treatment on her hair, which her other grandmother washed out the same weekend using her cheap shit (yes I'm heated by this because I didn't tell her to wash her hair). I have nothing against cheap products, but if you're going to use them please read the ingredients (if you don't want it in your hair don't use it for my child)...I digress, but poor baby hair needs like a good spritzing of water/moisturizer like 3x a day everyday lol.
So, I got a free sample from Wally World (Wal-Mart) of the Roots of Nature Remedies from SoftSheen Carson. The samples included the Reconstructing Deep Treatment, and Strenghtening Oil Moisturizer. I used the Oil Moisturizer on her hair, and ewwww it's really an OIL moisturizer. The first four ingredients: water, glycine sobja oil (soybean oil), glycerin, and coconut oil were decent, but then it's like after everything else that's in their the green tea and shea butter are like smack dab in the middle. Let's just say this, we won't be using it again. Yeah it made her hair soft, not easier to comb and left a greasy film on her hair. I don't even get that when I add straight oil to her hair (well after the leave-in), so this shall go in the "good try, but no cigar" pile.

It's already looking like my baby has her Daddy's 4b hair, with a few coils in there courtesy of Mommy...so if you have a child with a similar hair situation please do not hesitate to share your tips. This is another reason why Mommy decided to go ahead to become natural. I have to know how to take care of her hair, so must start again with mines. *le sigh* Time to go into battle to pick out this afro of hers because she hates hair time lol.
